What did Varèse say about America? It’s in the tiitle of Amériques - America is where we "discover new worlds on earth, in the sky, or in the minds of men."
And what did Zappa say about Varèse? His (Frank’s) inventions stood on the shoulders of Varèse.
So start with the opening placidity of Amériques. Draw them in, make them lean in and strain to hear it. Then a dramatic pause, snares rattling low in the background. Then hit them. Own their faces with "Big Swifty." It would have to be simplified, slowed down - these are high school kids, after all. Or what about "Inca Roads"? Actually, an entire medley. The Varèse/Zappa Medley. Yes.
Ohhh, he chuckles, that poms bitch is going to absolutely hate it, hate me - especially when I put the drum major in red/white/blue and stick a big black moustache and soul patch on her. We’re going to end up in the principal’s office again, hehe.
